At Banner, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. From the materials we choose to the way we manage energy, waste and transport, we’re continually working to reduce our impact on the planet. Using our 2024 emissions as a new baseline, we have committed to achieving net-zero by 2050 for Scope 3 and 2040 for Scopes 1 & 2. This target drives action across our operations and supply chain.

What Are Emissions 'Scopes'?

To measure our environmental impact effectively, we follow the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, which groups emissions into three categories known as Scopes:

Scope 1:

Direct emissions

from sources we control — such as fuel burned in company vehicles or on-site gas heating.

Scope 2:

Indirect emissions

from the electricity we buy and use in our buildings.

Scope 3:

All other indirect emissions

from our wider value chain — including the manufacture and transport of goods, waste disposal, business travel, employee commuting, and more. Scope 3 typically makes up the largest share of our footprint, but it is also the hardest to control. That’s why it’s a key focus area for action.

Our 2024 Carbon Footprint & Net Zero Target

To help tackle climate change, we’ve committed to Net Zero emissions by:

2040 for Scope 1 & 2

2050 for Scope 3

With a target to reduce
emissions by 4% annually

2024 Total Group Emissions (location-based)

Scope 1: 101 tonnes CO₂e

Scope 2: 180 tonnes CO₂e

Scope 3: 9,735.7 tonnes CO₂e

Total: 10,017 tonnes CO₂e

 How We’re Reducing Emissions

Our 2024 reduction efforts focused on:

We Are Carbon Neutral

In 2024, we offset 100% of our emissions (10,017 tCO₂e) by investing in accredited projects that remove or prevent emissions elsewhere. These include:

  • • Renewable energy and clean water projects
  • • All accredited by Gold Standard or UNFCCC
  • • Fully traceable and externally verified

While we’re proud to be carbon neutral, our long-term goal is to achieve absolute emissions reductions rather than relying on offsetting.

What else are we doing?
